Introduction to the World of Aventures Arcanes
"Aventures Arcanes" is thought as a Romantic-Fantasy Tabletop Roleplaying Game, and that is uncommon in this domain. It glorifies actually all aspects of Love and can create particular atmospheres : horrific, epic, romantic or fairytales depending on the Game Master's talent.
A Brief Background
The idea of a multiverse was born in 1986. This universe would reconcile Heroic-fantasy with Cyberpunk and Science-Fiction. I wrote a little novel which allows me to get the basis of the future "Aventures Arcanes". In 1988, I discovered RPG and I decided to adapt my novel in a RPG. Indeed, I found official RPG boring and frustrating because of the lack of imagination of their authors especially concerning species which were very limited, offering only Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Trolls and, sometimes one ore two more local species. We established the first rules for "Aventures Arcanes" with a friend. These rules were revised in 1990. The same year, I started the hard work of illustration which is not finished yet. ,I think that I'll never manage to finish it before I die.
The Concept
A little bit complex, I won't explain it here. It offers a total freedom to Players, who can be good as evil. The way I enliven my own Game underlines the realistic and love dimension. The magic is various and very free. More than 300 species, voluntarily unbalanced and different, are walking on the world of "Aventures Arcanes" . Time is not linear : here are the major assets of this home-made RPG. Now, 5000 scenarios later, the rule system and the world is very structured with more than 3000 written pages and maps. Unless you ask for it, I won't develop "Aventures Arcanes" on this Website. The major required quality to be the Game Master of "Aventures Arcanes" is to be greatly open-minded.
The Novel
I've finished a first 270 pages novel which describes the adventures of a "hero" in the world of "Aventures Arcanes" (in french only, sorry, but maybe I'll translate it one day!). I will be published at the end of this year. I'm proud to be edited because it's a great reward for my seventeen years of work. You may download a part of it if you speak french!
