

Windrunner

Imagine a world of ruins and devastation! A world scanned by the vague remembrance of nuclear winds. You're in the universe of Windrunner. This home-made RPG was created in 1999. He has no reference, but to get into the atmosphere, watch movies like "Mad Max" or "Waterworld". It was a 60 scenarios campaign. If you need explanations or if you have questions, send us an e-mail!
The Context
The Environment
We're in the year 171 of the new calendar (year 0 is the great atomic rain which eradicated 97% of mankind). Players evolves in the Realm of Frasse which is divided into five Archduchy. The king is one of the five Archdukes elected by noblemen. With an Intrigue of the Court background, Players are the Windrunners, the Chosen Ones who seek the "Heart of the World". From the nuclear war emerged a new clergy which vows a cult to a single divinity : the God Lardol which coat of arms represents a S crossed with two horizontal bars. The clergy has a very strong influence over the five Archdukes. The five Archduchies are :
- The Archduchy of Pars which Capital is the city of Fontanebelle
- The Archduchy of Albe which Capital is the city of Albe
- The Archduchy of Straßbürg which Capital is the city of Kölmar
- The Archduchy of Rennus which Capital is the city of Rennus
- The Archduchy of Toln which Capital is the city of Nice
Many mountain ranges disfigure the Realm of Frasse. Players will start in the town of Chatelaine-Malabre.
The means of conveyance are essentially planes which look like planes between 1904 to 1945 (nothing more recent), gliders, hang-gliders, aerostats and weird flying machines like those from Leonardo da Vinci. The sky is full from those aircrafts. Aerial means of conveyance are the privilege of Noblemen and Windrunners. Common people walks or rides mutant horses and beefs and the bourgeois rides terrestrial steam machines. No trains, railwayrs, car nor motorcycle.
Although they never see them, the enemies of Windrunners are the Sunseekers. As you understood it, the technology of Windrunners is based on wind and gliding. The technology of Sunseekers is based on solar energy. Just imagine weird machines which draw their energy from the sun. The Windrunners live in the northern hemisphere and the Sunseekers live in the southern hemisphere.
The Players
Players are Windrunners. They have been chosen by the god Lardol and are the only ones being able to find the "Heart of the World", legendary artifact who is said to be able to bring hope back. A thing that will suprize Players is that anybody who cross their way recognize them as Windrunners. Why? It's a mystery... (ins and outs will answer you!). However nothing can separate them physically from the rest of mankind. When they create their Character, Players receive a flying machine they want : a Plane like Blériot's one, an aerostat, a glider or a machine with propellers from their inventions. They are send to find the "Heart of the World" by the Clergy of Lardol and they have no clue at the beginning!
