Mediemonde
by Sheratan
A medieval game without magic and which takes place in a medieval wordl similar to european XIIIth century, that's a change. Though...! We let you the pleasure of this little home-made RPG which may be played during few scenarios. For us, Mediemonde was about 35 scenarios long. If you need details or if you have questions, e-mail us!
The Context
The World
Imagine a world which could be a kind of parallel Earth. You're in Mediemonde. The known universe is reduced to a country large as France (1000 km x 1000 km). The outside lands are called Terra Incognita and only messengers from foreign countries bring news from the other principalties. The Land of Mediemonde is like a sequence of medieval cities of french and german style.
Night & Day
No day and no night. Mediemonde only knows the "Nocturnal Clouds (Clouds appear and mask the sun, then the luminosity of the sun decreases to a moonlight degree). The Sun always remains motionless (as if the planet knows no rotation nor revolution).
Seasons
Seasons are clearly defined but weird. Indeed, only two conditions : the Summer Vault and the Winter Vault. Between theses two seasons are, during one week : the Spring Imago and the Autumn Imago. (Imagine : winter during approwimatively six months, spring during one week, summer during six months, then autumn during oneweek! It's a bit strange, isn't it?).
Ecology
No difference at an ecological level : vegetal and animal species are similar to european western species.
External Frontiers
Above the known universe is the Circle of Okean which is a Mountain range. However, before is the Rampart which protects the inhabitans of Mediemonde from the legendary Krygands. The full name of this giant wall is "Rampart of Pandora". He is 3000 years old and according to the Scouts in charge of watching Krygands, is about 25 meters high. Made of an unknown material, it's impossible to climb it, because it's perfectly smooth and unalterable. The Rampart of Pandora is supposed to be a gift from the God Auafameuas who sent his messenger, the God Otannasa to raise it against a great Krygand's invasion.
The Players
Players are common fellows in this sometime hostile universe because of the robbers. They may live some uninteresting adventures at the beginning and the Game Master must keep his mouth shut concerning the future! It's why the GM must present it as a medieval-medieval Roleplaying Game (by oppositon to Heroic-Fantasy Game). Believe us, it's not the case at all!
