Vampire the Masquerade™
&
Werewolf the Apocalypse™
Werewolf the Apocalypse and Vampire the Masquerade take place in modern world. In Vampire, the Player is ... a Vampire! And in Werewolf.... You guess! We will criticize here Vampire the Masquerade. The world is divided between various families with their own interests and political stakes. The Vampires possess powers inherent to each family. The Camarilla (the Masquerade) is a system of common laws for every Vampires and which imposes amidst to hide their nature to mortals. Generally, Vampires follow the "human way" and fear to become inhuman by their behaviour. The rule system is based upon 10-sided dices. Players roll a number of dices equal to the required shill or characteristic and look at the result. The GM defines a level of difficulty and the Player counts the number of dices that are superior or equal to this level : this is the number of success (which is similar to Shadowrun, but with 6-sided dices instead of 10-sided dices). Werewolf is globally very similar to Vampire.
Our Opinion
Advantages :
Intrigues are the main concern of Players and the relationships between the various families are very interesting (results may vary with the Game Master!).Many powers and knowledges about the story, other races and the world sustain efficiently and give it a great durability.
Defects :
The rules system must be improved to withdraw the rule that gives more success when a Character rolls a 10 and remove success when the Character rolls a 1. This makes the system heavy , because the more powerful the Character is, the more average the results are.
