The Legendary 20-sided Dice System
Created by Gary Gigax, when he invented Dungeons & Dragons, the rule system which uses a 20-sided dice is in fact a percentage system. It consists in throwing a 20-sided dice to obtain the highest result possible.
You might have been surprised to see many Roleplaying Games using this system and maybe, you noticed that some old RPG, like Starwars were converted to this system. The explanation is easy : this system is no more patented and is now in the public domain, so it can be used freely.
Our Opinion
Advantages :
The 20-sided dice system allow a fast resolution of actions. Very easy to use, is well-adapted for beginner players and Game Masters.
Disadvantages :
A big lack of amplitude let a very weak margin of action to the Game Master. As a consequence, this system is frequently deserted by old players even if AD&D-addicted players claim that this system is perfect.
